Overview
TRAKER ("the Extension") is a browser extension that helps you track product prices across online stores and receive notifications when prices drop. This privacy policy explains what data the Extension collects, how it is used, and how you can control your information.
Data We Collect
The Extension collects only the data necessary to provide its core price-tracking functionality:
- Account information: Your email address and encrypted password, used for authentication. When you log in, an access token and refresh token are stored locally in your browser.
- Tracked product URLs: The web addresses of products you choose to track. These are sent to our backend server to enable periodic price checking.
- Price data: Current and historical prices extracted from product pages you track, including sale prices, original prices, and currency information.
- CSS selectors: The page element selectors you create when picking a price element. These are used to locate the price on future visits to the same product page.
- Site metadata: Product names, website names, and currency codes extracted from tracked product pages.
Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your browsing history or activity on sites you are not tracking.
- We do not collect personal information beyond your email address.
- We do not collect payment or financial information.
- We do not use cookies or tracking pixels.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising purposes.
How We Use Your Data
- Price checking: Tracked product URLs and selectors are used to periodically fetch and extract prices from product pages.
- Notifications: Price data is compared against your set thresholds to trigger browser notifications and optional email alerts when prices drop.
- Account management: Your email is used for authentication and to deliver email alerts if you enable them.
- Extension heartbeat: The Extension sends periodic heartbeat signals to the backend to indicate it is available for background price checking. These contain no personal data beyond your authentication token.
Where Your Data Is Stored
Your data is stored in two places:
- Locally in your browser: Authentication tokens, tracked product lists, and user preferences are stored in Chrome's local storage (
chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device unless you initiate a sync or price check.
- Our backend server: Tracked product data, price history, and account information are stored on our server hosted on Microsoft Azure. Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in a PostgreSQL database.
Data Retention
- Price history: Retained for 120 days, after which it is automatically deleted.
- Tracked products: Retained until you remove them or delete your account.
- Account data: Retained until you delete your account.
Host Permissions
The Extension requests access to individual website domains only when you choose to track a product on that site. This permission is requested at the time you use the "Pick Price Element" feature and allows the Extension to:
- Inject the price picker interface onto the product page.
- Read price information from the page using your saved selectors.
- Perform background price checks on that domain via hidden browser tabs.
You can revoke any domain's permission at any time through Chrome's extension settings.
Your Rights & Data Deletion
You can exercise the following rights at any time:
- View your data: All tracked products and price history are visible in the Extension popup and the TRAKER web app.
- Delete individual products: Remove any tracked product from the Extension popup or web app. This deletes the product and its associated data from our server.
- Delete your account: Use the "Delete Account" option in the profile menu of the Extension popup or the TRAKER web app. This permanently and immediately deletes your account, all tracked products, price history, alert settings, and any other associated data from our server. This action cannot be undone.
- Clear local data: Uninstalling the Extension removes all locally stored data from your browser.
You can also contact us at ebineldho73@gmail.com to request data deletion if you are unable to access your account.
Third-Party Services
The Extension communicates only with the TRAKER backend API hosted on Microsoft Azure. We do not integrate with or send data to any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
